Sewer Excavation vs. Trenchless Sewer Repair
Trenchless sewer repair is sewer repair that doesn’t require digging. It’s often the less expensive, quicker, and less disruptive way to effect sewer repair at your Westfield, IN home or place of business, and we at 24-7 Plumbing use it whenever we can. There are, however, some circumstances when only excavating sewer line will work, and we have the expertise and modern equipment to do those sewer repair jobs fast, effectively, and relatively inexpensively as well. (Naturally, we bring those same skills and tools to bear when installing new sewer line, where digging is pretty much always required.)

SEWER EXCAVATING: THE PROCESS
Here’s how sewer excavation proceeds step-by-step:
First, we measure the length that the sewer line runs or, in the case of a new line, will need to run. Then we determine slope and elevation. Throughout this process, the goals are to prevent future clogging and avoid unstable soil.
Second, we calculate the proper pitch for the sewer pipes. This is to provide a drop per foot of no more than a quarter of an inch to keep wastewater and solids flowing at a constant rate. This too is to guard against clogs.
Third, with the measurements and calculations complete, it’s time to dig. The goal is a trench with a smooth, flat bottom and no soft soil in that bottom. Soft soil can lead to sagging pipes.
Fourth, we lay the new sewer pipe.
Fifth and last, we fill in the sewer excavation. (Once the dirt is back in place, please leave it alone for six months before planting new shrubs or trees. This prevents the soil from shifting and the pipes from shifting with it.)
Sewer Excavating: A Final Word
As you can see from the foregoing, sewer excavation done properly is a painstaking, technical process. Here at 247 Plumbing, we have the training and equipment to do the job right, at a fair and affordable cost, so if you’re in need of sewer excavation or any other plumbing service in or near Westfield, IN, please give us a call.
